Ghouling, A Trend of Unspeakable Cruelty

How to verify your Twitter account in a post-official era

Twitter’s policy change means that bad actors may be more able to believably impersonate accounts. If you want to signal to readers or check the authenticity of an account, apply or look for these. — Twitter recently discontinued its legacy account verification, which means users must establish their authenticity and credibility on the platform in other ways. Unfortunately, even if users follow the suggestions, these will only help if a reader attempts to see if the account is real. Verified checkmarks as they were before…

Data show attacks abroad often favor Putin at home, but NATO also rewards Russia by delaying membership for countries it attacks

Evidence shows that NATO often hesitates when countries express interest, leaving Russia ample time to make them ineligible. Then, when countries are attacked, NATO rewards the aggression with delay. — Summary The data show that aggression toward neighboring countries generally favors Russian President Vladimir Putin at home. The rapid improvement in attitudes toward Putin and the lack of lasting consequences could explain why the Kremlin repeats even ineffective tactics. The potential payoff is high. Maintaining power is a life-or-death matter for…

Lobbyists use No True Scotsman logical fallacy to redefine abortion and then deny it can be life-saving

The threat to life in changing the definition to suit ideology is that it doesn’t change the medical definition. One should be able to hold any stance and recognize the facts in this case. — Yes, abortion can be medically necessary The anti-abortion activist Lila Rose has said on multiple occasions, most recently in a tweet, that removing an ectopic pregnancy is not an abortion. Russians react to HIMARS with everything from comparisons to Hiroshima to denying they’re helpful at all

The M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, also known as HIMARS, is an all-weather, wheeled precision strike weapons system. It’s eating Russian ammo depots for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. — HIMARS leaves an impression — no pun intended The M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, shorthanded as HIMARS, is a full-spectrum, combat-proven, all-weather, wheeled precision strike weapons system.
