BLACK LIVES MATTER
If You Like the Music Save Their Lives
One of the most hollow documents ever to emerge from the oval office slipped into the Federal Register as the week closed.
The document is so general as to be meaningless. “I call upon… the people of the United States to observe… with appropriate activities…” reads Proclamation 10044.
If you like the music, protect their lives. To our Black and Brown Americans, I am sorry that we have ignored your pain. I’m sorry that after everything you have suffered, this seemed appropriate.
I’m sorry that authorities have met justified protests demanding the end to murders with chemical weapons.
Black Americans need reform and revolutionary programs that correct the egregious crimes of our forefathers. This is not that.
“NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States
of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution
and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim June 2020 as African-American Music Appreciation Month. I call upon public officials, educators,
and all the people of the United States to observe this month with appropriate
activities and programs that raise awareness and appreciation of African-American music.”
If you want to understand systemic racism, MASSIVE SCIENCE published a list of books that, while not comprehensive, has some worthy titles to consider.
